2011 agency and solidarity in the age of globalization

Let me begin with a couple of general remarks that framed my reading of the papers of this session. First of all, all of them engage in complex and incredibly potent layers of analyses. There is no way for me to do full justice to the wealth of material and theoretical content in such a small space. Second, coming from a totally different discipline (architectural history, theory and criticism) allows me a somewhat distanced position to the disciplinary content of the papers. I was captured mostly by those aspects of their material, position and arguments that I could relate to my own work. This allows me to focus more on the arguments that I think may have interdisciplinary relevance for a broad array of interests than their informative contents. My reading therefore has been inevitably and necessarily partial and selective.
